International Student Exchange

Water UCI is in the beginning stages of a collaboration with the Arava Institute and Tel Aviv University in Israel aimed at launching a student-faculty exchange program centered on the challenges of water management in semi-arid regions experiencing acute water stress. When fully mature and conditions permit, students and faculty will travel to the Dead Sea and Salton Sea regions, respectively, where they will engage in multi-disciplinary field and classroom investigations of the water-energy-food nexus in these desert regions, as well as the challenges in managing rapidly shrinking inland saline seas vital to the economies and heritage of their societies. Formal launch will commence in late-2020 with a set of remote, virtual “salons” that will permit face-to-face discussions on these critical issues; elevate attention to their importance among potential community sponsors and funders; and help establish a multi-national community of issue-savvy faculty, students, and lay audiences.
