IDEAL project

A supportive program for a timely and innovative initiative to promote the education, training and career placement of underrepresented groups in California’s water sector.  Intended as a program that can be replicated in other universities, the goal of Inclusive, Diverse, Equitable, and Able Leaders for Water is to enable greater diversity and inclusiveness in what is arguably the state’s most important resource sector.

Drawing on UCI strengths, Water UCI has built teams of investigators to exchange knowledge and better network with investigators from other UCs, other universities and various research institutes. Our emphasis is on convergent science – melding natural, physical, and engineering, social, and policy science around issue-focused needs. Achievements have evolved along two distinct lines: (1) meetings, organized with external support, which have resulted in post-meeting publications; and, (2) new scholarly synergies, leading to novel opportunities.

In addition Water UCI works closely with local water utilities, agencies, governments and the private sector to advance water research in Southern CA, throughout the U.S. and in foreign countries.

Industry-University Research Center
Each year, Water UCI works with a cohort of regional water agencies to identify the most pressing water supply, water quality and water management challenges in the region and in the country via our Industry-University Research Center.
